A volcano in the Philippines has begun spewing lava, as authorities warn that a "hazardous eruption" is possible "within hours or days".

In the early hours of Monday, a weak flow of lava began seeping out of Taal volcano - located some 70km (45 miles) south of the capital Manila.

It comes after it emitted a huge plume of ash, triggering the mass evacuation of 8,000 people from the area.

Taal is the Philippines' second most active volcano.

The fascinating thing about Taal Volcano is that it is a volcano within a lake that is actually at the centre of another ancient volcano crater. So that mountain ridge where the reporter is standing is actually the crater's edge of another massive volcano. Gusty to be hanging around there right now. It is very sad indeed, such a beautiful place.

1:23 "pinapple groves" - looks like coconut trees to me. I always admire the acuracy of BBC news, so this minor slip-up caught my attention. :p This eruption reminds me a lot of the 1980 Mt. St. Helens eruption in my home state of Washinton, where I could see the ash plume from Seattle. Now I am living in Mindanao, far south of the Taal volcano... but can't help but admire the resiliance of the Philippine people during these natural disasters.

24km from my house. Smoke still visible until now. Ash still falling the sky. Everyone is wearing some kind of mask to protect themselves from harmful substances from the ash falls. Also cancelled flights, class and work suspensions all over the region Manila and CALABARZON. Gov't agencies expecting more erruptions to come, lava flow has been minimal. Multiple earthquakes from around the country have been reported through out the day. Pictures of the said natural phenomenon has been utterly beautiful but so destructive at the same time.
