In September 2015 I spent 8 days in Belize on my own. The first two were in Belize City, on their Independence Day, followed by a day and a night on Caye Caulker, then the next day at San Pedro, then flying to San Ignacio, where I went horseback riding on my 41st birthday. I took the bus eastbound towards Belize City, spending my last day at the Blue Orchid Resort at Burrell Boom. On my vacation, I used six forms of transportation: golf carts, automobiles, boats, a bus, a horse, and a "puddle jumper" aircraft (Tropic Air).

Just got home from Ambergris Caye. Best vacation of my life. My family loved it.
Swimming with sharks, Hol Chan, visiting Mayan temples on the mainland, ziplining in the jungle and tubing the Mayan underworld caves etc..
Casa Magdaluz, Boca del Rio Drive is awesome, Secret beach is awesome, the people are awesome, food is awesome. I seriously want to go back and live there.
Oh yeah, saw you in Sandy Toes on Sunday but you were deep in conversation and I didn't want to interrupt you. Next time.
Cheers, Mike!

We are from Brazil and went to Belize last month. We love the country, the islands, the people ... everything. we were only sad that the prices charged in Belize is for American tourists as everything is very expensive. Other than that, it was perfect.

Great for those hanging out in the tourist areas. Other issues is the money exchange. $2 BZ to $1US. Be sure to pre-negotiate fares and fees into BELIZE dollars. People will tell you their price but not tell you it was BZD. You will pay 2x the actual cost. Other things are: tell no locals where you are staying; Do not venture out alone at night. Even San Pedro has crime against tourists.
As William says, it IS a 3rd World country and everyone hustles to survive.
I live in Dangriga and know all too well what things are really like here. So when you venture away from the relative safety of your resort be aware.

So my husband and I plan to travel there this summer. I thought about having a fanny pack to carry passport, phone, and sunscreen(no wallet for me). Will that be safe? I planned to put the strap through my belt loops of my shorts.

You dont need to understand its a third world country your being very hypocritical and as you know we are the only English speaking country in Central America and by far different than these other central american countries and also the safest in Central America get your stats straight. Also dont use one guy for questions, my advice meet with different people when investing or buying or retiring in Belize there's many ways you can learn about everything and the best way ask local any questions be wise and dont go by what one person says. Thanks

Belize is way more than just the Cayes.I stayed in Corozal for two weeks and absolutely loved it, went to Ambergris Caye for the day and hated it, it was just way too touristy. If you want to see how the locals live then head to the mainland there's way more to see there.

A really nice place to visit in the Cayo District is "Belmopan Beach Adventure Park" it's a family owned park located near Belmopan the countries Capital. It has a private "Secret" Beach on the river, Horseback Riding, River Kayaking, Tubing, and some other things were offered as well like I think Beach Weddings and Horse Wagon Rides. You can find them on Facebook and Instagram.
