As I watched this video, I'm reminded that these once young, brave soldiers are slowly succumbing to age and soon all will be just pages in the history books. God bless you all.

Yesterday I changed my car insurance via phone and the young lady with a charming Sopthern accent, told me new payment date was June 6. I said, "That is easy to remember, D-Day". After a long silence I realized she didn't have a clue what D-Day was. To her credit she hung on while this old man gently gave her the education not given in today's schools. The conversation took me back to when I returned to the University of Washington (Seattle) after 3 years of US Army, 1966-1969, wearing my issued Army field jacket, and I got spit on by the college elite. Freedom is so precious, and the United States and all her Allies will always be there to insure our freedom.

My father was among the first assault waves with 1st ID; it was difficult for him to talk about it and I didn't know anything about his war experiences until he mentioned it when I was 25: at that age he already had returned home from the war. One quiet evening he did open up a bit and recounted that soldiers who had been hit or were missing legs from navigating thru a minefield, pointed the way for others. Those were his heroes.
