This is a song that Helen was not especially fond of, but recorded at the direction of Capitol executives who hoped that a disco song would revive her fading chart fortunes. Gerry Goffin and Carole King had written it in 1964 and Betty Everett recorded it as "I Can't Hear You" the same year. Widely regarded as a non hit, it was Betty's follow up to her monster hit "Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss), peaking at #39 R&B and #66 on the Hot 100. It should have charted higher based on the chart performance of Shoop Shoop Song. Lulu also recorded it as a follow up to her mega hit "Shout" and it did not even go top 50 UK. Soon after, Dusty Springfield released her version and then Carole King herself covered it for her 1970 LP "Writer" It was resurrected in 1976 for Helen with the members of the band soon to be known as Toto, The song did hit #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart, but was her eighth and final single to do so. Barely squeaking Top 30 (#29), she was to have one more top 20 Hot 100 hit in 1977 with the #18 charting of "You're My World".
