Beloved Israel "Iz" Ka'ano'i Kamakawiwo'Ole sings his renowned medley of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and "What a Wonderful World." Israel was among the most celebrated of Hawaiian performers with a kind and gentle spirit that is evident in his touching voice. He tragically died in 1997 of an heart attack at an early age (38) and has been sorely missed by his many adoring fans.

According to Wikipedia: "The Hawaii State Flag flew at half-staff on July 10, 1997, the day of Kamakawiwoʻole's funeral. His koa wood coffin lay in state at the Capitol building in Honolulu. He was the third person in Hawaiian history to be awarded this honor, and the only one who was not a government official. Approximately ten thousand people attended the funeral."

The 64 photos of Rainbows were selected from Google and Bing image searches for "rainbow" to help visualize Israel's soaring words and melodious Spirit that still touches and inspires our deep places many years after he has gone. Thank you Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole.

My mom passed away in August of this year. I buried her on a rainy afternoon and said my final farewell to her. She was my biggest fan, my biggest cheerleader. She always made me feel confident, and loved unlike my father. I will miss my mom forever. I’d like to believe she is somewhere over the most beautiful rainbow.

I played this song at my son's funeral. Everytime I hear it I am moved to tears. Israel was the dew on the petal of a Hawaiian flower. Gems like him are rare. What a gift he has left for us all!

I'm listening to this during quarentine, and while I listen to this song I like to imagine that my friends (who are like family to me) are sitting on the other side of the rainbow, and once the rain clears and the rainbow fades my friends and I can give each other great big hugs :)

You know that one song that seems to make the world stop? Where it's like, for just a few minutes, everything is put into perspective and all your worries are muted by the sound? And your mind is completely clear, and it's like every note reaches every corner of your brain... this song does that for me.
