The story Cinderella had its share of dark moments. In one version of the story, "Aschenputtel, " by the Brothers Grimm one of the stepsisters, at the advice of her stepmother, cuts off her toes to make the slipper fit. The other stepsister cuts off part of her heel to make it fit. Then at Cinderella's wedding, her stepsisters attend as her bridesmaids, (they had hoped to worm their way into her favor), the doves fly down and strike the two stepsisters' eyes, one in the left and the other in the right. When the wedding comes to an end, and Cenderella and her prince march out of the church, the doves fly again, striking the remaining eyes of the two evil sisters blind, a punishment they had to endure for the rest of their lives.

This is pretty similar to the original 1812 version of grimm's collection of fairy tales. I love that this version makes the pigeons have an active role in the story with dialog and action, a lot like the mice in the disney version. I also like how they characterized the prince. Also i like how the king is portrayed as goofy as they did in the disney version xD

UPDATE (December 2020): Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics is finally being released on Blu-ray! In 2021, Discotek media will release the entire series as two volumes. The releases will include the original Japanese versions, along with re-assembled versions of the English Saban dubs (the original masters having been lost). It is great to finally see this series getting an official release.
