Mandisa Opens Up about Dealing with Depression 5
We love Mandisa and how infectiously happy she is–in both her songs and in person. But what a lot of people don't know is that her song "Overcomer" began a downward spiral into a deep depression that even led to thoughts of taking her own life.

Wow, Satan said the same thing to me and I thought I was hearing Jesus tell me he was right around that corner so I closed my eyes and waited for the sleeping pills to take effect until I hear, "but you will never see how God can turn this around." That was enough to get me up and make that 911 call. It wasn't smooth working out the issues that brought me to that place, but now 20 years later I see now what was hidden then. I'm glad to be alive.

thank you so much! for sharing your story of depression. I've definitely been there. Satan whispered to me "drive off that bridge" and I would slow down so I wouldn't do it. He told me that the ones I loved would be better off without me. They don't feel that way. I came out of the darkness too. This album is so incredible! and you have the most amazing voice, but then you know that. Hugs!

Reminds me of my boss a number of years ago. She had a brain aneurysm at 40, and a 4 yr old. I thought when I saw some rainbows I believed it was a sign that she would get through her surgery and be okay. Unfortunately His answer was releasing her from more of those health issues, and she passed away. I was also in what I called a "pit of despair" but that anger towards God from me eventually lessened with time. I'm thankful for so many friends who came around & supported me. Thanks for your honest/transparent talking about this with us (and through the music).

Hi Mandisa. I have struggled with depression for 27 years. I got diagnosed at 13. So anyhow. I feel like it is hopeless. When I was in high school, I attempted suicide for the first time. I have since struggled with it and self harm. I am still struggling. I fell deep into a pit a few years ago when I got scammed. I hated myself for 7 months. I wanted my life to end. I don't feel like that now. I would love to meet Mandisa just to have her pray for me and so I can hug her. She means the world to me. SHe is courage, love, and the hands and feet of Jesus. Please Wally can you make it so I can meet her? I will be so PLEASE??? I love you Mandisa. Keep sharing your story for the light of his Glory.

So many things I want to say about this topic. My mother died after we prayed. She had an unpleasant road to it but I have found that we have to say in anything we go through that God Is GOOD. That's faith—believing He is and is Good! His goodness is His mercy, His grace, His discipline, His justice, Him allowing us to see that shallowness of our own hearts when we don't get our own way. Our faith can't be so short-sighted. Having endured the no when I heard God say yes, I've learned that it's not always about asking why. I've learned it's about realizing God is on a different playing field of love compassion and grace than any human being.

Last word

God says "when you go through the water I will be with you"

Even when we struggle God is right there with us pushing us to love Him because loving Him frees us.
