Radio exchanges reveal Iran-UK confrontation before oil tanker was seized 4.5
Dramatic audio of radio exchanges between a British warship and an Iranian armed forces vessel revealed the moments before a British-flagged oil tanker was seized in the Gulf.

In the audio, the Iranian vessel can he heard instructing the tanker, the Stena Impero, to change direction: : "If you obey, you will be safe. Alter course to 360 degrees immediately, over."

The frigate then asks the Iranian vessel to confirm it is not "intending to violate international law" by attempting to board the tanker, in the recording obtained by security firm Dryad Global.

The Iranian vessel then tells the Royal Navy frigate that its intention is to inspect the Stena Impero, for "security reasons".

All these people in the comments say, "oh don't they mean 180°" "wouldn't 360° be the same way they were going?"

No. They aren't talking geometry, I know it's the Iranian Navy, but they aren't that stupid.

360 degrees on a compass means due North. 180 is due South. 90 East, and 270 West.

For all those who ask about 360* . He's NOT talking about a 360* turn .He's ordering the ship to heading to 360* direction which is toward Iran.

There was a British warship 1 hr behind this oil it was the war ship talking in a 3 way conversation

He's not telling them to do a 360 circle he's telling them to turn north. 360 degrees is north, 90 is east, 180 is south, 270 is west.

IRAN: "If you obey, you will be safe, if you obey, you will be safe.
Alter your course to 360 degrees, immediately, over."

UK: "MV Stena Impero, this is British warship Foxtrot 236.

Sir, I reiterate that you are conducting transit passage in a recognized international
strait, under international law your passage must not be impaired
, impeded, obstructed
or hampered."

IRAN: "Foxtrot 236, this is Iran Navy patrol boat. No challenge is intended, no challenge is intended. I want and expect the ship for security reason, over."

UK: "Sir, to not hinder and impede her passage, you must not impair, impede, obstruct
or hamper her passage."

IRAN: "If you obey you will be safe. Alter your course to 360 degrees immediately."

Because wars for oil is a more logical step than changing our energy output. The people causing this need to be taken care of for the benefit of the rest of humanity.

Would be nice to see the GPS logs of the tanker to see if the passage of the ship was truly in international waters or if it was deliberately sailing in contested waters as a provocation designed to generate casus belli.

Foxtrot 236 - British Warship (About 1hr behind)
MV Stena Impero - British Oil Tanker (Commerce)
Iranian Vessel

The conversation was going in three ways but the commerce ship wasn't talking. Iran was instructing the British commerce ship to head due north to Iran (hence 360°). Iran wanted to carry out security checks but it is clear that they didn't since now they are using this ship as leverage for their own seized tanker. The British Warship was simply telling the Iranians that they can not seize the boat in international straits, or they would be violating international law. Still, I don't entirely trust the origin of this audio clip.

Now the folly of 30 years of Navy defence cuts comes home to roost. Hope you are reading HM Treasury.
