I visited Taiwan in 2015. I was going to Nepal, but Nepal experienced the April 26 major earthquake so China Eastern traded my ticket for Taipei. The people are friendly and helpful, things are reasonably priced. The entire strip from Elephant Mountain, 101, Daan Park, is very photogenic. You are correct, the level of English is better in Taipei than mainland China except in major China cities. When I was there, the 101 Building had the fastest elevator on Earth but I think Dubai or UAE may have taken that distinction since I was there.
The Metro is very convenient and the ride out to Tamshui is a great way to do a beach day. Be careful to avoid over-dosing at the chocolate shop at the end of the Sweetheart Bridge. Most of the Information Desks on the metro lines speak pretty good English. Altho Taiwanese speak Traditional Chinese, I found they could understand Mandarin, to a degree.
The place I stayed, Wing Hotel, was just off Chiang Kai-Chek Plaza. The National Botanical Gardens and museum, the Snake Street Night market, the night market by Chiang Plaza, the Concert Hall, and Daan Park, were within walking distance. In Late April, I found Taipei to be very humid, more so than Thailand. Redardz!

you can see why China keeps harping on "One China" . To grab Taiwan like HK and Macau will be like winning a lotto for the Red Thugs

Sometimes it feels like any part of Japan (very posh and well built areas) and sometimes it looks HongKong back alley markets and sometimes it just looks any metro city of China and with a little bit of South Korea as well !

Looks like a fun city and not so expensive to eat out. I just looked at accommodation on Booking.com (where I also book from) and prices don't seem that bad at all. It's just the return flights that would be the most costly. I'd be coming from Dublin, Ireland.

Wow your travel tempo is crazy. Month or two ago I remember you were in Finland, now already in Taiwan. Don't think I could fly so much lol. Then again I haven't tried to, so who knows.

I love how colorful everything is. Pretty cheap to visit even if for one week, it's the airfare that I'm sure cost a bit🙂 thank you again for another fabulous video Gabe! Try the hot pot place that sounded more traditional n looks yumme. I always try to eat traditional meals in every country I visit, cuz America food is boring lol! Carry on n be careful my friend, until next time.✌

I've watched your videos for a while and finally you come to Taiwan. Taiwan is overrated and invisible in international societies due to its situation as an orphan in Asia. In fact, its national GDP is bigger than that of any countries in southeast Asia and it's also the origin of Austronesian people. Taiwan boasts its large number of high mountains and indigenous culture. You can visit Wulie because it's the northernmost settlement of Austronesian people and located on the border of Taipei Basin and mountainous area. Besides indigenous culture, it also has waterfalls, hot springs, overhead cable trains, mini trains and lots of elements Taiwan has to offer for the visitors. You've to step outside Taipei to see the real beauty of Formosa.

Heh, I still see widescreen TVs as some kind of a luxury, even tho that's been the default for like 10 years now. Pretty sure someone born in the 00s doesn't think that way.

Hi Gabriel. I like the area of your hotel. I spent days lost in Ximending...lol. I think the fastest MRT Route to Taipei 101 from Ximen is to take the Blue line to the Red line....and alight at Taipei 101...but the walk you did was nice too. I once walked for Ximen MRT to Nanjing Fuxing MRT station...lovely way to meet local people. Taiwan is so friendly...and safe.
