“The last time I trusted a dame was back In Paris in nineteen forty. She told me she was getting a bottle of wine, two hours later the German’s marched into France!”

As she walked past the window I could see her shadow creeping into the room. A few seconds later she was knocking on my door. This dame wouldn’t leave me alone.
*knocks on door*

Jimmy open the door it’s your mother.

God damn it Janet, can’t you see I’m busy. I said with conviction.

Jimmy are you listening to Noir music and narrating everything again?

...she was good, too good. The kind of good that made a man feel like a child.

I scrolled through these comments. Reading peoples words like body language. With difficulty. Stories about poop. Rain. And cigarettes. All in the style of Noir narrating.
Here i am, sitting in class, writing in that same style. Whats my life come to?

Edit: almost a year ago i wrote this and totally forgot about it lol

Noirish writing is always fun: The poop uncoiled in massive circles, and my behind burned like someone struck a lit match against it. Whiskey was a bad decision. So was the expired milk. When the beast was finally out, I flushed and turned to my left. The toilet paper roll was emptier than a Church on a Tuesday. Just another day.

At the time I didnt expect much,
Just normal life of living in west end Philadelphia with my aging mother of 70,
I use to play sports like basket ball with a few of my mates back then. We always played our game behind one of the old schools.
I didnt know what to expect when I found a group of mobsters out back,
I was sure they were up to no good. maybe they were trying to sell a few drinks during these prohibition days.
I ended up getting into a pretty bad fist fight with a few of them, scared my mother real good
She told me I'd have no choice but to leave the city before they came looking for me.
So i went traveling to see an old relative of mine in California
I never woulda guessed that this would lead to me becoming the fresh kingpin of bel-air.

*walks in from the rain into the building*
Elizabeth: How was your walk in the rain, handsome?
*sets up my coat and hat on the rack*
Me: hmph, the usual...
*She hands me a file*
Elizabeth: i'de love to discuss with you about your stroll in the rain, but another case just came in today.
*Takes the file from her hands and takes a look at it*
Me: what? another case of a missing person, murder, or a runaway?
Elizabeth: actually, no. it's way different from the usual cases we got over the years.
*looks at the file and looks back at her with a look of interest*
Me: What's so different about this one?
Elizabeth: the cops wanted you to look into a group of cultist. they fear that they've got control of the city from the shadows.
Me: the police? why do they need a private eye to do their work?
Elizabeth: well, they feared that the cultist may have dispatched undercover spies all over the city even in their ranks.
Me: it's that bad huh?
*she nods and turns to the type writer and starts writing*
*i walk into my office and light a cigar and open the file and examine the photos and messages*
*spreads the photos and messages all over the desk, sits back, and takes a long stare at a photo of my deceased wife*
Me: I need your light to guide me through this....

"Just another day at the office" I say to myself as I shuffle through all the papers of cold cases I worked on in the past. Back then....back in my old glory...my name used to mean something. The cases were coming in lime hotcakes and I was everyone's go to Joe if they needed one solved. But these days....its just all grey...a blur of my glory days. Hell, figured I'd wind up dead chasing down leads on crime bosses, but sometimes I ask myself: "Is this really any better" I hear a tap at my office door. Whether I should open it or not will have to wait....I got my booze and smokes waiting for an appointment on this long rainy evening.

Michael Scarn: Beer me, Billy.
Billy the Bartender: Hey, Mike. You don't look so good. What's got you down?
Michael Scarn: I got problems, Billy. Big problems.
Billy the Bartender: You got problems? My TV don't work! I paid 30 bucks a month for the damn satellite whatsawhosit, can't even get the damn game! Hey, you tell me. What's worse than that?
Michael Scarn: Don't ever change, Billy. Goldenface is trying to blow up the NHL All-Star game tomorrow.
Billy the Bartender: I see what you mean about problems. I know what'll cheer you up. That table of bachelorettes over there brought you this drink. [he puts up a pink martini]
Bachelorettes: Hey!
Bachelorette #4: Ever banged an entire bachelorette party, baby?
Michael Scarn: Not today. I'm too depressed to save the big game, Billy.
Billy the Bartender: I'm gonna cheer you up. The only ways I know how's. Hey, kid! [he throws a quarter to a boy] Hit G9 on the jukebox.
Michael Scarn: Don't, Billy. I haven't done that dance since my wife died.
Billy the Bartender: There's a whole crowd of people out there who need to learn how to do the Scarn.
Michael Scarn: [music starts] Well, my name's Michael Scarn and I'm here to say-

"Hyperion City. Some people say it’s the most beautiful place in the galaxy. The rest of us live there.
It’s one of those places that they make postcards about, Hyperion. Hell of a skyline, twinkling lights and neon waves below, and shimmering satellites hanging above. But here’s the thing about a skyline: it only shows you the outside of things. On the inside… inside, things can get messy."

I always thought that narration was a pretentious gimmick. Yet, it remains a staple in noir films. Perhaps there’s just something fascinating about hearing the thoughts of a grizzled detective or a man who’s life is spiraling out of control. Hell if I know.
