A closeup view of the night sky 5

New, cheaper technology has made it easier than ever for amateur photographers to take stunning, out-of-this-world images of the heavens. But as correspondent Serena Altschul reports, our night skies are becoming marred by light pollution and, increasingly, orbiting satellites. Still, for photographers, stargazers and astronomers alike, dark sky reserves (where outdoor lighting is regulated) offer some of the best views of the universe above, and a chance to look up in wonder.

I love this, Because when were kids we lay a blanket on the hood of the car. And Dad would point out the milky way!!! So those days are gone . Especially if you live in the city.
Thanks for sharing ✌️🙏🙏

Over 30 yrs of casino ego lighting here in Atl. City has greatly improved. Instead of lighting the buildings has evolved to signage instead of entire structures. This in turn reduced the beacon effect.
This will improve fatalities from migratory birds that have suffered tremendous losses over the decades....

The Natural Darkness of Night is Restorative and Necessary. Few things are as ORGANIC as at least some semblance of Darkness at Nighttime. Please DO NOT exceed 2700K when using outdoor or indoor lighting (in this case, less is More). Choose Soft White, Warm White, Yellow, Red, Amber, Orange..., just as long as it Does NOT surpass 2700K.

Great Piece. Typically, there was such resistance by some to "having" to conform to the light ordinance before they realized the tourist money that a dark sky would bring in...

Great story. I’m fascinated with astronomy and space. We need to eliminate light pollution. I rarely see many stars and can remember seeing many more as a child.
