South Wales Police declare a national weather emergency in the wake of Storm Dennis 4.5
The Environment Agency said there was a record 594 flood warnings and alerts - including four severe "danger to life" warnings - in place.

It was the highest number ever issued at one time by the Environment Agency as torrential rain and 90mph winds lashed communities still reeling from last weekend's Storm Ciara.

One of the worst-hit areas in South Wales was the village of Nantgarw, Rhondda Cynon Taff, near Cardiff, where entire streets have been left underwater since the early hours of this morning.

Emergency teams including firefighters and volunteers have been evacuating parts of the village cut off since 5am this morning.

Paul Mason, group manager of South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said the scene his team had faced was the worst he had experienced in his 31-year career.
