Yes, we put up the building ourselves, with a lot of help from family and friends! Basically, it was like a big erector set. Rent a telescoping forklift and starting with the braced bay. After you get that squared, it is easier to match the rest. Of course, make sure the anchor bolt layout in the concrete is accurate, Then the rest of the building should stay plumb and square. Also, forget about the bat insulation and go with spray on insulation once building is up. Thanks for watching!

I work for a major metal building construction company. This is an awesome project for a home and workshop! Congrats!!

The main foot print of the structure is 60 X 100. The house inside is 2 story and is roughly 2500 square feet. We added an addition a few years back that doubled the shop space. Leave yourself plenty of room to "add on"... projects like this tend to get out of control fairly quickly. Our original idea was to just put a small apartment in the building, you see how long that lasted. Good Luck! Send pictures, we'd love to post them on our tipsbytom website!

Thanks! We have been in our shop/house for over nine years now. We enjoy every minute and love the commute to work... especially during these cold Wyoming winters!

Thanks Zsammy0415. We would recommend a house/shop to anyone! The sidewalls of the metal building are 16'. We dropped the "house" part of the building 2', so sidewalls in house are 18'. This leaves a nice peak in the living room of 19'. Let us know how your project goes!

You sir, are my hero.
I plan on getting a 40'x80' with 20' ceiling when I get out of college. I've been dying to build amazing things for as long as I can remember, but I never had the space, knowledge, or means. Next year I'm going to graduate with a Mechanical Engineering degree and finally have all three :)

Definitely a Lonesome Dove fan like myself. Great music and enjoyed seeing the beauty of where you live.

Thanks! Good ear on the tune! Gus McRae would have had his share of whiskey... the project took about 2 1/2 years from start to finish. Our "Gus" at the end of the video was actually named after the character in Lonesome Dove. He was a good friend also.

Hi Tom. Nice job.

I would like a few more specifics on the size to help me with my plans.  You mentioned below 60 X 100 but said you added on.  The home is 2500 SF.  I assume there is a little more on the bottom floor vs. the top?  How much did you add so is it now 60 X 130 or what?

Also, with the original two story, how much of the 100 linear was house and how much shop (the breakdown)?  Thanks much.

What's a freshly poured concrete slab without a few paw prints in it? lol GREAT job, Tom....I'm so impressed!! The hubby is trying to talk me into the house/shop thing, and if I do it, I'm going with your exterior beautiful.
