Lifecast mold making with 880 from Accucast. I put my shaved head to good use and did an open mouth lifecast mold with no bald cap. This is a VERY truncated version of a lifecast. The complete process is explained on our Lifecasting 101 DVD.

Hi, did you put anything on your skin to release the alginate? or does it come off easily?

For which alginate? I vary slightly depending on the alginate I am using and the type of cast I am doing.

The mold of the clay cast pulled from this alginate mold could be used to create a silicone mask. 880 Alginate is a one time use mold.

I know the alginate usually takes about 8 minutes to cure, but then you have to add the plaster bandages.. So how long would you estimate it took you from the point of applying the first layer to his head to finally peeling everything off.

This cast took about 20 minutes but a full head cast with alginate takes about 25-30 minutes.

The cost for an average full head cast is ~$45. As far as the mask cost goes, there are so many variables in the molding/casting process, especialy if you are undecided on latex or silicone, that it would be very difficult to predict that. Check the comments for some of our videos on build up masks with Gel-10. The comment section of both the silicone mask video and the advanced silicone mask video have discussions about price. @Cattasraafe Depends on the size of the person being cast. 2 lbs should be enough for that process but I don't typically use that technique.

In this video the molders left a hole (or two) in his nose so he could breath. Some people place short straws of some kind to prevent any mishaps such as blocked nasal passages.

As for the mold going into his mouth (if that was your question), it shouldn't unless you don't time it right, and/or your heads angle is too upward. Brickintheyard's head was at a good angle and time to prevent the mold from entering his mouth (though it almost did).

Once you've used the alginate to make a mold of your whole head, made the support shell and you use the alginate mold and shell to make a positive can you use them again to make another positive or is it a one time use only mold? Same question for the 380-CC alginate and the 590-IBG alginate, please.

Sometimes, if you are VERY careful, you can get 2-3 pulls out of a face mold.

@Matty09Magic We ship to the UK. You can also check with mouldlife in the UK to save on shipping. As for making a mask that way, never tried that. That is uncharter territory.

Hello, i want to know ¿how long it takes to alginate sets? thanks.

Should the plaster bandages be applied while the alginate is still setting up, or should you wait a significant amount of time before laying on the bandages? I tried face-casting the other night, and I found the plaster didn't grab the alginate well once it was firmly set.
