I have used many Painting Filters in Photoshop. I have also used many paint filter programs. There was always something I did not like about them though. I could always tell a Filter was applied to get the look. If I looked closely I could see repeating patterns and shapes that made up the image. It looked fake.

I used to be a painter, I haven't picked up a brush in nearly 4 years (and I miss it) but I painted for a long period in my life. One year I painted nearly 65 paintings while I was going through a Color Theory, Composition, and abstraction experiment. I know quite a bit about paint application, color blending, and brush techniques. Knowing all of this it is hard to pull one over on me with a 'Paint Filter'. Even if you print it on canvas I can pick up on it almost instantly.

However, Topaz Labs has just announced their newest software addition, Topaz Impression. When I first talked to Darcy of Topaz about this she mentioned a new Paint Filter program. My immediate reaction was... great another paint filter program... She allowed me to look at the betas over the last month and within my first taste of the program I was hooked!

Excellent Tutorial. Excited to next see the follow-on. Am considering TopazLabs bundled set, including Impressions.

Great video!  The program seems very responsive.  Can you tell us the size and resolution of the images you're working with here?

Hi Blake, I recently purchased Impressions 2, but this was a great primer and I learned much. I became a photographer artist after I spent 30 years in engineering and IT professions. The hardest transition is that I worked in a profession where I had to get the “right” answer, to a profession where the answer is, what do you want it to be? But I love this product.

Super amazing tutorial. This was recommended to me by another Lake Michigan photographer. I absolutely love all the options of editing. I am buying this for sure! Thank you for the wonderfully informative video!

I get the impression that Impression competes more with Alien Skin Snap Art 4, versus Simplify, which seems to be a plug-in that specializes in emulating watercolor and airbrush paintings. Also, Impression is a stand-alone program.

On this video Blake Rudis goes through the basics of Topaz Impressions. His voice is easy to listen to, and his pace is just right. I was able to stop & start the video and practice each step with an image on my laptop. I went through the video twice to be sure I got it right. That's how a video tutorial should work. Thanks, Blake!

Very good tutorial Blake.
I have a number of Topaz products and didn't even know about this latest release.
Have now downloaded it and been experimenting with the trial version. I like it.
Do most people who convert Photos into Paintings, have them printed onto Canvass to have some texture or on to normal Photo paper ?

Is there a trial version? I have downloaded the entire suite as a trial but impression wasn't included.

Your video just cost me a hundred dollars! Was looking for something better than Photoshop's paint filter and ran across Topaz Impression, and ultimately this video.  Great job of showcasing the software that I'm now getting it. Also considering the bundle, but $500 bucks in kind of high considering I already have Google's Nik suite.  Anyway I'm definitely getting Impression.  Again, thanks.

If you have the complete topaz collection do you still have to pay full price (less coupons) for topaz impression?

Great video.  It was like an adventure.  Great choice of picture.  I was wondering if the program could correct or minimize a problem even if a work of art is not the desired outcome.
