Good episode on progressive metal but not a word about Opeth? 🤷‍♂️

Not a big Rush fan but what trio has that much talent? And Alex Lifeson was hilarious in Trailer Park Boys. ☺

For those people, like Sam Dunn, who dismissed Rush after they transitioned their sound from the 70s, this band still deserves a huge amount of respect for maintaining their loyal fan base throughout the years!!!

Would have liked to see some love given to Fates Warning.

To not mention Opeth here is insane! He actually had an Opeth T-shirt on at one point! Only criticism of a good doc and series in general

To me Tool are very much an Alternative band as much as Prog, they blend the 2 together.

Great that this is online now I remember watching this years ago on TV I’m surprised coming back to this episode a lack of Opeth or Devin Townsend but overall it was really good

Throughout this whole series it’s been tough, in 2021, to see how many of the greats have left us.

Strange that they decided to use Meshuggah's 2008 Bleed given their specific input for the genre during the '90s. I think something like New Millennium Cyanide Christ would have been a better choice.

Huge fan of Rush, Dream Theater and Mastodon. Always have loved the complex arrangements and musicianship of anything Proggy. It works well with my Squirrel Brain (ADD).

Leviathan is a awesome album.... That album made me a mastadon fan

And justice for all actually was a big step in prog metal

It seems to me Opeth is so much bigger and more influential than Mastodon, no? And gothic has no place in his lists as well? Or did I mis out on that?

Metallica and Iron Maiden were important in mixing metal with 70s prog rock. Then you had the 80s Tech Metal bands like Watchtower and the 80s the Melodic Prog Metal of Fates Warning. When you mix both you get classic Dream Theater. But on the other hand you have the avant garde prog metal that was inspired by Zappa and King Crimson instead of Rush, Devin Townsend comes to mind and bands like Voivod.
Then you have Mathcore and Post Metal which are indeed part of Prog Metal depending on how much you think Math Rock and Krautrock belong in Prog.
