Suspicious emails: unclaimed insurance bonds, diamond-encrusted safe deposit boxes, close friends marooned in a foreign country. They pop up in our inboxes, and standard procedure is to delete on sight. But what happens when you reply? Follow along as writer and comedian James Veitch narrates a hilarious, months-long exchange with a spammer who offered to cut him in on a hot deal.

The TED Talks channel features the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes (or less). Look for talks on Technology, Entertainment and Design -- plus science, business, global issues, the arts and more.

This guy is a genius. Not because of his clever replies to scam emails, but because he did stand-up comedy and made people believe it was a TED talk.

I did this once with a scammer. Exchanged emails with them, made them believe I was sending them money. Admittedly, I did something a little creepy. I viewed the email's source code and noticed a hotmail account hidden behind the fake email I was seeing on the surface. I google searched the hotmail account and found the scammer's real name and all these websites he was using. I then gave the scammer a heart attack by saying I was a hacker who knew who he was.
