There I was on death row
Guilty in the first degree
Son of God hanging on a hill
Hell was my destiny

The crowd was shouting crucify
Could’ve come from these lips of mine
The dirty shame was killing me
It would take a miracle to wash me clean

Then I read the red letters
And the ground began to shake
The prison walls started falling
And I became a free man that day

Felt like lightning hit my veins
My dead heart began to beat
Breath of God filled my lungs
And the Holy Ghost awakened me
Yeah, the Holy Ghost awakened me

When I read the red letters
And the ground began to shake
The prison walls started falling
And I became a free man that day

For God so loved the whole wide world
Sent his only Son to die for me
Arms spread wide for the whole wide world
His arms spread wide where mine should be
Jesus changed my destiny

Thank You, God, for red letters
When the ground began to shake
The prison walls started falling
And I became a free man that day
The prison walls started falling
And I am a free man today

A Texas-based singer/songwriter known for his wide-ranging fusion of pop, rock, folk, electronic, bluegrass, and hip-hop, David Crowder rose to success in the early 2000s as the leader of the church music group The David Crowder*Band. Over the next decade, the band racked up numerous Dove Awards for their inspirational rock sound, releasing popular albums like Illuminate (2003), Remedy (2007), and Give Us Rest (2012). Rebranding in 2012, simply as Crowder, the singer launched an equally successful, though more stylistically varied, solo career with albums like 2014’s Neon Steeple, 2016’s American Prodigal, and 2018’s I Know A Ghost.

The red letters that’s in this song is what brought me back home from Iraq!!! I have seen the face of death and my brother’s and sisters in Christ, let me tell you, it’s not a beautiful sight, but Jesus changed my destiny and I became a free man today, Amen.

The red rope represents the words of Jesus ( the words of Jesus are written in red in the Bible). It's showing how Jesus is surrounding us at all times and cleansing us with his precious blood (which is also red of course). I believe thats what it's supposed to represent. It's just an artistic point of view. It's beautiful.

When I first heard this song I didn't understand what the " red letters " were. I thought red letters were some kind of pardon letters written from the government. About the third time listening to this song I realized the " red letters " were the words Jesus spoke written in the Bible. These are, in fact, the ULTIMATE pardon letters that deliver us daily.

This song is also about how my life has happened. After nearly 30 year's in prison and being saved and redeemed by Jesus Christ, I am free today and no longer in bondage to sin. Jesus changed my destiny and my entire life.

“And the ground began to shake. The prison walls started falling.
And I became a free man, that day.”

That line reminds me how Jesus shook the prison walls that Paul and Julius were in. (Actually it might have been Paul and Cylus, I don’t really know =P)

Jesus loves you, and he’s coming back soon.
And this time, he’s taking you to heaven with him!
Never stop believing 😁❤️
(HAHA! U lose again Satan =P)

I ask a prayer for an uncle of mine who recently got out prison. He spent nearly a decade living between those prison’s walls and now, little by little, he is recovering. He had an intimate relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ during his time there. He is pretty much starting from starch, but fortunately he has his lovable siblings helping and supporting him during his ordeal. This song seriously touch me because it explains exactly what my uncle went through. I really do appreciate the prayer for those reading my comment. My family and I will also be praying for him and his psychological recovery. God Bless you all and thank you Crowder for the remarkable music.
