REMASTERED IN HD! UP TO 4K!!
The official music video for Where The Streets Have No Name by U2.

An afternoon rooftop show above the Republic liquor store at 7th and Main was shut down by police as a result of the huge crowds that descended on downtown Los Angeles to see the band perform the opening track from The Joshua Tree album in March 1987 for this video by Meiert Avis.

Lyrics:

I wanna run, I want to hide
I wanna tear down the walls
That hold me inside.
I wanna reach out
And touch the flame
Where the streets have no name.

I wanna feel sunlight on my face.
I see the dust-cloud
Disappear without a trace.
I wanna take shelter
From the poison rain
Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name.

We're still building and burning down love
Burning down love.
And when I go there
I go there with you
(It's all I can do).

The city's a flood, and our love turns to rust.
We're beaten and blown by the wind
Trampled in dust.
I'll show you a place
High on a desert plain
Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name.

We're still building and burning down love
Burning down love.
And when I go there
I go there with you
(It's all I can do).

Truly is one of the greatest songs ever written. The intro is the sunrise to the greatest day of your life. And the outro is the sunset.

This still gives me chills. Reminiscent of the '69 Beatles roof top concert. Both in my lifetime. I sure miss these guys - and, when music was full of positive energy.

I miss those innocent days.Just about everyone was enjoying themselves seemed like there wasn't a care in the world. This was 1987 downtown la. This is what the world needs now.god bless

I applause U2 for standing their ground and almost finishing their set. I know the footage we saw was post processed but their courage was so amassing. I love them!

They were not my generation growing up, but I dated a younger woman for a while who got me hooked; we saw them live in Albany NY. I was greatly impressed by how professional the band was, playing & singing their hearts out, the complete opposite of phoning it in

U2 made my college years even better. U2 and their songs bring back so many great memories. I was lucky to get a lot of this on tape. Shout out to my mates from New Zealand!! Summer of 91 was the best with y'all.

For those of you wondering if this really went down like this - it DID. It was all over the news, and MTV (back when they actually played music videos) aired it as well. This became the official video - and an iconic moment in the history of music.

Life in the 1980s was marked by a sense of simplicity and connection as there were no cell phones to distract from genuine human interactions. People spent their time engaging in face-to-face conversations, and the music of bands like U2 provided the perfect soundtrack to this era, captivating hearts and minds with its phenomenal melodies and lyrics, creating a lasting cultural impact.

I was there I was 21 years old working on a billboard across the street watching them set up all morning. I didn't know who was going to play until they started. It was a great day, no one knew they were going to be playing and the crowd just blew up. The police were trying to get up on the roof and had no way . The band played the song 3 times by the time the police made their way .
I got a in this video when I came down off the billboard. I'm the kid in the white construction helmet and a wife beater. I m in a shot by my self 3 quarters into the video
