While I like knowing these are myths, I’d prefer them going into greater detail about what the truth actually is.

"Another person can fill this gap for your cat easily" WRONG I tried it with my sister the cat I was taking care of didn't want to be anywhere other than where I am at, or eat or sleep, when I went to sleep and closed my room door he kept crying till I opened the door and he instantly made LOUD purrs and rubs and he is stray.

cats bond with ppl, yea sure they don't think you r their mother, but they don't replace ppl THAT easily

at least to my exp, I have been feeding and taking care of stray cats in my area for years.

"Cats see you as a resource for food."

My neighbor's cat literally jogs up to me for pets whenever we happened to encounter each other. I don't provide her food (I think I did give her water, though a few times during summers). Not to mention that there are videos of owners coming back home after a long time of absence and the cats being excited that they're home.

I think cats see their owners and friends more than as a means for necessities, personally speaking.

The stigma around black cats really breaks my heart. I have a beautiful black cat named T'challa, and he's the sweetest, stupidest cat I've ever met, and I would do anything for him.

Most of comments here already covered some of the points I wanted to express, however I also feel the need to add that cats to recognise their caretakers and will likely miss them if their "caretakers" are replaced. And I put between quotes because, well, i'm not a cat, and i don't know how the cat see's us, but definitly not just "source of food", they will meow and cry if their owners are replaced / absent out of their routine.

“Someone else can fill that role pretty easily” what an awful cynical way to look at cats. Has she even ever had a pet cat? They LOVE you and no someone could not “easily take your spot” in your cats life.

If your cat is only active 1 hour a day, they're either extremely old or very ill. Unfortunately some vets speak with unearned confidence :/

"The typical cat sleeps 23 hours a day."
Yeah, no. I have 4 cats and NONE of them sleep anywhere near that long. Yes, they sleep a lot. But not THAT much.

So the idea that cats love milk came from the same place as the myth that rabbits love carrots: television. In reality, milk and carrots are dangerous for the respective animals. How sad.
