This is our decision, to live fast and die young
We've got the vision, now let's have some fun
Yeah, it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?
Forget about our mothers and our friends
We're fated to pretend
To pretend
We're fated to pretend
To pretend

“I’ll miss my sister, miss my father, miss my dog and my home”
This line always cuts a little too deep for me everytime I hear it

14 year old me: "I like this song"

This is a depressing song with a party vibe

I’m 50, and I love this song. Every 7 years or so, I’ve had to say goodbye to a life chapter. This song embodies an earlier one. Letting go of childhood, and grappling with gritty reality.

I'll miss the playgrounds
And the animals and digging up worms
I'll miss the comfort of my mother
And the weight of the world

I swear to god, the louder this song is, the better it is

I remember listening to this song in 2014 when I was 12 years old, hearing the lyrics "I miss my sister, miss my father, miss my dog, and my home" and how I still have all of those at that moment, and slowly but surely they're all leaving.
November 2017 is when my dad moved out and we don't see each other that much now,
May 2020 is when my sister moved out
December 2020 is when we had our dog put down because of the tumours and the amount of pain she was in
August 2021 is when I'll be moving out of my mom's place, out of my room that I've had for the last 19 years.

My sister, my father, my dog and my home, the only remaining one of these will be gone in less than a month. Sometimes it hurts to grow up..

First heard this a few days after my first acid trip while I was outside painting with my dad. Had to hold back from crying out of a mix of joy and sorrow. Life is weird. Aging is weird. But this song is beautiful and nearly brings me to tears each time

This song perfectly encapsulates the loss of innocence and the cold indifference of a world that forces us to go to work and forget our dreams. Here's a reminder though ... as long as you still have your imagination and can dream it you can still ignite the fire within your heart. <3

Who actually came here because this is a good song

These guys have like two songs where they're like "this is fun :)" and then they abandoned all hope of hapiness for the rest of their discography

Damn, 12 years since this great song was uploaded by MGMT in YouTube... Time goes by so fast! I love this song since 2008. Greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽

Why does this song make more sense the older i get?

My whole youth I was scared of anything and everything, the only times I wasn't scared was when I was 9 years old and when I was 21 years old... I have only one regret, do not let anyone else take your happiness, even if it pays!

Not only does this song make me nostalgic for childhood, but also for days with less technology. Your parents forced you to go outside, video games got boring after a couple hours, there was a real substance to life. Today just seems so much more empty

I had this song as a ring tone for years. Never get tired of this.

My ex girlfriends mother said to me once:

*Once you hit 25 or so years old, you hardly change as a person, in a sense you are that same person you were before even if you turn 50*

I used to think that was bullshit, but I finally get it. I assumed you grow out of the things that made you happy as a child/youngster/young adult... Life is about growing and moving on, but some things just hold on to you for the rest of your life... And surprise surprise all of that isn't just bad things, but really great and joyful things too.

Hard to argue with perfection, pure joy, thank you.

I'm 49 years old. Honestly, this is one of the most brilliant songs I've heard this millennium. Blows me away every time.

"We'll choke on our vomit and that'll be the the end" is a very underated line. It hits hard man, especially when there are people who you've known who've went out that way.
