Atom: The Illusion Of Reality (Jim Al-Khalili) | Science Documentary | Reel Truth Science 4.5
The final part of Professor Jim Al-Khalili's documentary series about the basic building block of our universe, the atom.

Al-Khalili explores how studying the atom forced us to rethink the nature of reality itself, encountering ideas that seem like they are from science fiction but in fact are a central part of modern science. He discovers that there might be parallel universes in which different versions of us exist and finds out that empty space is not empty at all, but seething with activity.

The world we think we know - the solid, reassuring world of our senses - turns out to be a tiny sliver of an infinitely weirder and more wonderful universe than we had ever conceived in our wildest fantasies.

The story of the discovery that everything is made from atoms, one of the greatest scientific breakthroughs in history, and the brilliant minds behind it.

The voice is so annoying I can’t even watch it.

what is with the banging gongs, trying to understand here

You would think from the great scientific theories we think we know. I would think the fact that the great musical genius behind this video would understand that.”Whenever the volume of the music is equal to the volume of the voice the product equals noise”!

A neutron walks into a bar and asks for a beer. A moment later he tells the bartender "How much do I owe you?" and the bar tender says "For you? - No charge"

Quantum physicist walks into a bar. Bartender says, "Weren't you in here tomorrow?"
Quantum physicist says, "No, but I'll be back yesterday."

The sound effects in parts of this are near unlistenable. Just let us listen to the damn guy talking.

Reality isn't an illusion.
It is just as it should be.
It is our perception of reality which is the illusion.

What is more important in this production. Utterly distracting noise or the info...

Please get rid of all that background slamming! I am trying to hear what the professor is saying.

Proton to neutron: "You have no electric charge."

Neutron: "Are you sure?"

Proton: "I'm positive."

32:00 I would have loved it if at this point you had just said, "And then came QCD which is total shite." And you were doing so well.

At 43:51 hmm... he forgot to drink his drink.... silly scientists. lol
When they say that the atom is made up of "mostly empty space", well that's true but at the same time one has to keep in mind that the electrons are whizzing around the nucleus as a wave at a very high speed (a fraction of the speed of light), therefore basically it creates sort of a cocoon which is impenetrable, unless of course the electrons are stripped away chemically.
In this internet age, people have no idea how lucky they are being able to watch a video like on demand, rather than having to read multiple books just to comprehend the basics. Course the details and math still has to be learned from books.
Oh and the really weird part of this video starts at 42:05 ;D
And finally, I would have never thought to see Quantum Jizz in real life at 22:43 xD
