I wouldn’t say that they swapped hard training for drug’s because they worked even harder with the steroids but you touched on the damaged masculine culture which also was responsible for the rise of football hooliganism as a response against the perception of Russians being drunks and not strong/fit so it was really interesting to hear that it’s happened before!

Video is deceiving - it shows Russian wrestler Aleksandr Karelin, the most successful wrester in the history (3 Olympic gold medals, one silver) and then proceeds to talk about usage of PED in USSR. In 13 years of Karelin's professional, no sports body ever found out that he used PED nor any other illegal substances. Let me repeat that: No olympic, international, european or national sports body ever found out that he used PED nor any other illegal substances.
