Thank you so much for this. I remember the old ABC cinema, I seem to remember that was where I watched my very first film, the Jungle Book. I was born in 1987 but I really appreciate the heritage of my town. I would like to see more of what was before Tesco Extra & Hollywood Park, it seems to be a complete blank in my memory. I remember that the supermarket used to have a revolving door but that's about it!

Hi Bernie, My name is Mark Stephens and I have some great footage on video tapes of me my mates inc Bernie Cunningham (Barrow legend) all at one of Tommy Halfpenny's great sing along parties at the pub in 1990. Tommy sings (in full) my way. If you are interested call me on 07729590838 as I don't always look on this site. I would love you to upload them on to your site as they are doing no good just siting in my cupboard. Keep up the great work Bernie and I'm sure you know the guy can always leave Barrow but Barrow never leaves the guy. Thanks, Mark.

So pleased to finally work out what was demolished on the corner of Cavendish Street/Duke Street. I knew the other corner was Norweb but had forgotten the United Friendly Insurance building on the other corner. Can anyone remember why it was pulled down? The iron walls stand on the site today.

Brilliant piece of history. As an 'incomer' to Barrow in the early 80s (and still here) I recall how friendly the people were (I married a Walney lass) and, despite the hard graft and lack of money people had I'm those days they had pride in their town and a sense of respect for one another. Mind you, Thursday nights were a bit of a riot

@ 1.34 the low road. Wasn't it a miracle that the old girder bridge took the traffic, in borth directions, without a priority sign? Look at the traffic down there, four lanes and still not enough. Regards and Thanks
