Since the beginning of a new school year, schoolchildren in the Gali/Gal region of Abkhazia, where ethnic Georgians reside, no longer study in Georgian – the last, 11th, grades, which until now had such an opportunity, switched to the Russian language, thus completing the transition of the local schools to the Russian-language program, with separate Georgian language courses. Jam News brings you reporting from both sides of the issue.

We should be United, there is no other way, we never going to recognize Abkhazia. As a autonomy in Georgia yes why not . Culture is almost same even last names same . We shuld forgive each other’s past wrongs and move forward together.

This region of Georgia is under ongoing occupation of Russia. Now we're facing deep-rooted process of Russian imperialism & Russification process. Every empire is doomed to fail simple as that. Georgia is eternal itself...I know this & our enemies know that. გაუმარჯოს ერთიან საქართველოს!

I am Mexican but it makes me sad to know the enormous conflicts that exist in that part of the world, I hope one day the world will find peace.

As a neutral Mexican, I love Georgia, Abkhazia and Russia equally.

first there are not abkhazians there are Adyghe-circassian people (Apsuas) tribe. Second, the history of Georgia begins in 1300BC and you can see that there is no "independent" Abkhazia, these 2 pretended states are military bases of Russians, nothing more

I wish peace Between Georgians And Abkhazians from Armenia..I don't see the point of keeping Abkhazia as an independent country it can be autunomous republic inside Georgia.Abkhazians have simillar culture with Georgians Both practice Orthodox church.Unlike Armenians And Azerbaijanis who don't share any serious cultural religious aspects

In historical context, it is essential to acknowledge that the individuals currently claiming to be Abkhazians are, in fact, Apsua people. This distinction stems from their migration to Georgia from the North Caucasus, an event known as "The Great Descent of the Mountain." The impetus for this migration was the Mongolians' arrival from the northeast. It is worth noting that a complete assimilation of the Abkhaz and Apsua people never occurred due to notable cultural differences.

Remarkably, accounts by Georgian historians from the 15th and 16th centuries shed light on the repercussions of this cultural divide. These historical records attest that valuable treasures and Christian icons, highly significant at the time, were transferred to other regions. The reason behind this relocation was the divergence in religious beliefs and cultural practices between the local Apsua people (who had already emerged as a distinct group) and the Georgians.

Supporting this notion, merchants utilizing maps from Venice during the same period consistently depict the city of Akua (known as Sukhumi in the Apsua language) situated on the northern side of the Caucasus Mountains, rather than its actual geographic location. This peculiarity can be attributed to the fact that the Apsua people referred to their capital city in the North Caucasus as Akua during that era.

As a historian, it is crucial to analyze these historical accounts and artifacts, considering their historical context and the cultural dynamics of the time. Such examination allows for a deeper understanding of the complex interplay between the Abkhaz, Apsua, and Georgian communities, shedding light on the historical trajectories and cultural identities of these groups.
