Kurasawa’s take on Macbeth with Throne of Blood is spectacular
Author — @nhlcbj
That's actually a very good definition for art: whether it survives as culture changes, or when it is applied to another culture.

I could watch Zizek talk about filehms all day long, I wish he'd make a 3rd documentary

"Kurosawa's Shakespeare adaptations are true multiculturalism"...that's incredible

I love it when Zizek validates my completely subjective opinions about media.

I remember in Newcastle watching a brilliant adaptation of MacBeth by Zulu actors called "Umabatha" (it was in Zulu of course but everyone knows the story). Turns out Zulu kings and ancient Scottish kings had a lot in common.

Throne of Blood has been one of my favorite films for as long as I can remember, and It seems like a recasting of Macbeth, so it’s really cool to see Zizek praising Akira here.

Also Ran ('King Lear') is way better portraited in the film (more natural characters, production and narrative) than in the book.

I was OK with everything he said until he told us we can understand Shakespeare better than Shakespeare understood himself. What the hell do we know about what Shakespeare understood? Mr Zizek is an interesting guy but I don't think he will be a household name in 400 years time.

The title is actually "The Bad Sleep Well" (much better than "Bad People Sleep Well")

Best adaptation of hamlet is 'the lion king'
Author — @entonlazaj
Try watching "Haider" (2014) the Indian version of Hamlet. It is the best ever Indian film I have seen.
