Ten months after the introduction of the asylum law of 29 July 2015, designed to enable France to better deal with the increase in demand, the situation is dramatic in Paris. Thursday, May 19 at noon, in the rain, thirty Afghans and twenty Africans are packed on the pavement outside the offices of the association France Terre d'asile ( FTA ), 127, boulevard de la Villette (19th arrondissement). 150 refugees have been sleeping on the pavement there for several weeks, hoping to get into the FTA office which has become the essential first step to getting an appointment at the prefecture. But on Wednesday, the doors were hardly opened, and on Thursday they were not opened at all.
