hurts my heart that the 80’s were 40 years ago. Best decade for music, fashion, everything.

[Verse 1]
There is freedom within, there is freedom without
Try to catch a deluge in a paper cup
There's a battle ahead, many battles are lost
But you'll never see the end of the road while you're traveling with me

[Chorus]
Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now, when the world comes in
They come, they come to build a wall between us
We know they won't win

[Verse 2]
Now I'm towing my car, there's a hole in the roof
My possessions are causing me suspicion but there's no proof
In the paper today, tales of war and of waste
But you turn right over to the TV page

[Chorus]
Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now, when the world comes in
They come, they come to build a wall between us
We know they won't win

[Instrumental Break]

[Verse 3]
Now I'm walking again to the beat of a drum
And I'm counting the steps to the door of your heart
Only shadows ahead, barely clearing the roof
Get to know the feeling of liberation and release

[Chorus]
Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now, when the world comes in
They come, they come to build a wall between us
You know they won't win

[Outro]
Don't let them win
Hey now, hey now
Hey now, hey now
Hey now, hey now
Don't let them win
They come, they come
Don't let them win
Hey now, hey now (yeah)
Hey now, hey now

Sad fact: Drummer Paul Hester who played drums in this song, committed suicide on March 26, 2005 after going through 4 years of ongoing depression. May he rest in peace forever. His dream may be over, but this song won't.

One of the greatest songs ever written

While the song has a blissful melancholy, it encourages us to stand by our dreams and to stand by each other. Too often, to this very day, we are divided by walls or the imaginary concerns of the world. Such a beautiful song...

I remember being stationed in a Germany as a kid and my first pet had just died, hearing this song was probably the first time I’d ever cried to ‘pop’ music...extremely powerful song.

When you're going thru depression and you hear a portion of this song and you look it up and fall in love with this song all over again! Then you play it over and over and can't get enough of it! Not sure it's helping with my depression, but love this song!

This is such a dulcet-sounding melody. Why can't anybody make music like this anymore? Seriously.

My Dad was born in 61'. He loved classic cars and he loved this band among others. I remember him working in the garage on his days off from the fire department, 70s and 80s music playing. When he had parties he would make playlists and it was just good times. Besides being a good father, he was also a great person. Having looked back on his life, I think he unknowingly discovered the secret of life. He may not have known it, but I aspire to be everything he was.

I travel a lot for my job, and on my way home every night I listen to a lot of the songs he loved and pretend he's riding next to me. Tonight I listened to this and kept it repeating.

RIP, dad. Gone way too soon.
