Anyone who's never heard directly-played live vinyl, or FM radio before MP3 used: Guitars sound had structure and texture. Not like distorted compression you hear online (including here, sorry) which makes early fuzz and overdrive guitars sound like they are playing on shortwave radio or underwater.
