“Sacrifice civil liberties in exchange for safety” Look at us now. People won’t even wear a mask or sit at home to be safe because they think it infringes their rights. They only sacrifice others’ civil liberties for their own safety.

When you research the personality traits of a cult leader, you'll understand why Trump has so much support now. What you have to fear is what happens in 2024 when he leaves and these people no longer have their support, their Identity, their separation from the outside world...things could get really bad for a lot of Americans.

It depends on your definition of authoritarianism: those who want higher levels of taxation and redistrbution on a non-voluntary basis, restrictions on hate speach, social paternalism by the state, taxation to elicit behavioral changes in nutrition, democracy promotion by force etc can also be seen as authoritarians but they will be shown to support the Left.

"They want to sacrifice civil liberties in the search for safety." Coming from 2020, I'm curious to see how this is at play. True, we're looking at extremists, but facemasks have somehow become politically steeped.
