LET'S BE FRIENDS:

Seeing the Top Gear Vietnam special only further increased the anticipation for one day taking part in it myself. If you’re looking how to motorbike Vietnam, the routes to take, the type of motorbike to take, and top things to do in each location, this video will help!
What’s the first thing anyone would need on a Vietnam motorcycle trip? Motorbikes of course! After touching down in Saigon that's the first "to-do" item we tackled. While I had long dreamed of making the trip on a proper motorcycle it simply wasn't to be.

The motorbikes that backpackers typically buy are notoriously unreliable. While a few breakdowns might be funny, the group decided to rent so we could maximize the fun part of our trip. We chose to rent more reliable brand new motorbikes from Tigit in Saigon. From a safety and reliability standpoint, Tigit rentals are far better than the Chinese knock off Honda Wins that can be found in backpacker quarters for sale around the city.
Vietnam Motorbike Trip Distance and Prep
The distance that we'll be driving on this Vietnam motorcycle trip is the equivalent of riding from Key West to Chicago. That's over 2,400 kms. We'll be joined for the first two weeks by two travel companions.
Before heading out on the open road the group also does a bit of shopping to prepare for the journey ahead. Vietnamese roads are a bit crazy with all of the motorcycle traffic so helmets and proper clothing are necessary. Allison opts for a helmet, kneepads, and elbow pads because she’s careful. Jaime goes with rolled up sleeves, an unbuckled helmet and flipflops because he is about two steps out of the trailer park.

ABOUT US:
We’re traveling full time, living on our own terms and showing you the up-close-and-personal details of us figuring it out along the way. Sometimes it’s about navigating big, life-altering decisions. Sometimes it’s about navigating the seemingly lawless free-for-all that is driving in Hanoi. It’s moments of triumph and moments of panic. The good, the bad, the ugly – and most importantly, the real and real funny.

We’re not here to tell you “how it’s done.” Just how we’ve done it. And that whatever it is that’s calling you - the way you’ll do it is much more attainable than it may seem. We believe the world’s a more interesting place when people reject convention in favor of what they actually care about. This is us putting that idea to the test – one budget spreadsheet, RV renovation and mountain-peak drone video at a time.

Nicely Done! I'm an English Teacher living in Ha Long Bay. I've been here two years so I have learned so much about Vietnamese culture and its people. I must say that this was a very good video. You really captured the spirit of Vietnam. Now I'm sure as you have returned back home, Vietnam will burn in your hearts and it will keep calling you back. This happened to me and that's why I'm here to stay as long as possible. If this happens to you too, then consider teaching English. It pays really well and allows you to stay a year at a time with a work permit and one year visa. The children of Vietnamese families are awesome and so willing to study hard. English teachers are highly respected and sought after. It is a part of the culture. I wouldn't trade this life for anything. I'm glad that you two have enjoyed your trip. Well Done on your drone footage. I also have a DJI Mavic Air drone or flycam as they say around here, which I use almost daily. Check out my you tube site for more. Look me up if you ever return to Ha Long Bay. By the way, the ferry boat to Cat Ba Island is the best kept secret way to take a cruise of the bay on the cheap. You get to take your motor bike with you. Thank you for sharing that. Many tourist can truly benefit from that information. Allowing the locals to drink with you is like an official right of passage. You are now a part of Vietnam forever. Cheers!

Amazing trip! Very nice sensibility, quaint and with professional flares with the drone footage. Epic yet personal - Great job! This is among the top 10 personal travel video of Vietnam - LOVE IT LOVE IT.... especially the last scene drinking chatting with a group of locals. It's still developing so the diversity between regions of the country is much more noticeable ... and more interesting.... The country side vegetation are amazingly diversified. It could easily be over 50 plant species in one scene along the highway - SPECTACULAR!

I never quite understood why people ride HCM to Hanoi, and then skip Ha Giang, up by the border of China. It's by far the most beautiful place in Vietnam, and a superb ride
