A light weight platform for trailer would be a sheet of fiberglass. Like from a boat. Find an old boat and cut out a section.

I use lexan on the floor of my bike trailers, I have an Allen sports and a Schwinn day tripper. The lexan doesn't break and hold 14 gallons of water without an issue.
