Great review comparison! IEEE is definitely better, you can even notice frame drops in Dazzle which is a high quality product so I assume all others on the market have the same issues. I will now replace my PC's motherboard instead of buying the analog adapter. Those tower motherboards have lots of built-in capacitors for voltage change and they dry out over the time which I did not realize when buying my first tower and I do not see the capacitors in notebook motherboards. It was the first and the last time I bought a tower PC, no matter how you fix it, get a new MB or replace capacitors yourself, they will dry out again in some time unlike the mobile devices. Will rescue all my tapes at best quality. Thanks!

Hello there, pal. I found your video very interesting and informative, but I still have some questions: since this video was uploaded two years ago and it isn't a 60fps video, I would like to know if your test footage was originally shot at 60fps, and if you were able to get this smooth fps through both outputs - firewire and USB. I ask that because I have a Samsung MiniDV camcorder that shoots in silky smooth 60fps, but I'm not able to capture my footage at this speed through my EasyCRAP USB capture device, not matter what I try. It just seems to throw away one of the fields, so deinterlacing it makes no difference whatsoever!

Thanks for the video! Am at this crossroad myself, with these two options, and now I need to go find a device that'll support firewire... since nothing new does anymore. I would try firewire to usb, but people are saying you'll lose data

Good video and helpful, thanks,

Unfortunately I have had no luck with Firewire. I bought a new capture card (1 x 1394a and 2 x 1394b) but at the moment I only have a few of the old cable types. I tried using Video Studio 2019 and also PlayMemories Home with my 10 year old Sony Camcorder but neither recognised it, The card is recognised in Windows 10 device manager and is listed as a "Texas Instruments 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller" and is working properly.

Might get a 1394b cable off eBay and see if that works.

Great evaluation. It would have been interesting if you could have added using composite video. Thank you again. Michael

Just got a Dazzle hooked up to the computer. First 30 min or so it was Perfect, then I went back and watched what I recorded it was excellent. I record the second time and I get this low beeping noise. It sounds like some kind of warning beep or perhaps a frog with gas. Not sure what to make of this. A few weeks ago I got the Roxio, Easy VHS to DVD 3. The video was great but the audio kept cutting out. A few years ago I got the hauppauge colossus Once installed it worked very well. Then it got to where it could not find the signal. Sometimes it would work other times not at all. Last time I tried to use it, everyone was blue with green hair. I uninstalled it then reinstalled it but got the same results. About 10 yrs ago I got the ATI 650 dual tuners and bla bla bla. All it would do is freeze up or crash the comp. And I did try it on a few other computers some with XP, others with Windows 7. So I thought perhaps I got a bad unit. So I got another one, same shit. So far I am into this for well over $500 plus a shit load of wasted time. Last year I did up grade my computer to an I5. maxed out on 8 gigs of ram 1 T hd, and I keep everything up to date.

Straight DV transfer crushed the s-video transcoding. No comparison. Now, I just need to find an old computer capable of transferring the DV through Firewire. I've never seen an IEEE standard dropped as hard as IEEE-1394. It's amazing there is absolutely nothing for laptops.
