Betraying the Game: Anas Aremeyaw Anas investigates football in Africa - BBC Africa Eye documentary 4.5
Almost one hundred football officials across West Africa and Kenya have been caught on camera accepting cash in a sting operation. It’s part of a two-year long undercover investigation by controversial Ghanaian journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

BBC Africa Eye has had exclusive access to the footage for their latest documentary. In one case a World Cup bound assistant referee from Kenya accepted six hundred dollars from a man posing as an official of a Ghanaian premiership team.

36:02 "As the law, the giver is as guilty as the receiver." Of course you idiot, but this is a "sting" the giver here is an investigative journalist proving the degree of corruption, not a gangster trying to actually sway the outcome of the game. Well, the journalist might have made some side bets to finance this that's not the point! (lol)

Anas is like Oliver Queen(Green Arrow). He will expose crime through vigilantism and you wouldn't like his approach, especially those who perpetrated the crime. His expose will pierce your heart like an arrow and you will feel the pain, some may even blame him and call him all sought of names but one fact is, abt 99% people, including myself consider him a hero and if u dont like his method stop corruption tom.

More so, viewers should learn from this and perhaps turn from their outlawed ways, while the culprits involved should go and sin no more...let he who is without sin be the first to cast the stone.

I wonder why people are so curious as to why so much money was used!! Helloooo, investigative Journalism isn't a cheap one, that's why u don't find every journalist doing it! Ana's and his team are on a completely different level. ..

This is mind boggling, shocking, I'm gobsmacked. Wish something like this can happen to The Vatican, UN, FIFA, US (Under Obama). Tennis. In fact, to the entire World. Hmmmm. You can't hide from God even if men never find out. A man without Christ is capable of anything no matter how seemingly decent.

MY HONEST OPINION

I watched with amusement the expose by Ghanaian journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas on corruption in African football. As we all know, Kenyan referee Range Marwa was among officials implicated in the expose. Marwa was one of the referees from the continent picked to officiate at the Russia 2018 world cup that kicks off in a week's time. While the expose is eye-opening and seeks to address the vice, I am against the methods used by Anas and particularly on Marwa as he went about his investigations. Anas' team followed Marwa to Casablanca, Morocco, and into his hotel room. As they clearly indicate in the expose, Marwa refused to talk to them and went about his activities. For over 45 minutes, he completely ignored them. Defeated and feeling wasted, the investigators contacted one of their referee friends in Accra, Ghana. The referee is a friend to Marwa. He asked Marwa to allow the investigators into his room and hear what they had to offer. Marwa obliged, finally. Armed with dollars, the investigators told Marwa they wanted to be his friend and went on to dish out 600 dollars as a GIFT. Marwa gladly took the gift and placed it on the table. As a Kenyan, he went on to tell the investigators that money was not important, brotherhood took the day. He insisted on having true brothers everywhere. All along the hidden cameras captured the moment. Like any of us would do after building trust in someone, Marwa went on to tell the investigators how he feared talking to strangers, especially those in Morocco. He had been trapped. He had been induced into accepting a GIFT that turned out to be an incriminating bribe. Then this has turned upside down his career. My own opinion, Marwa erred in receiving a gift from a stranger. But his friend had recommended the stranger to him. He went against FIFA rules. But the investigators...pathetic. You don't induce someone into accepting a bribe just because you want to add juice to your story. Unlike Ghanaian football officials who clearly accepted bribes to fix matches, Marwa was induced into taking the money. Anas and his team did a shoddy job on Marwa and some more officials implicated. He should find another way of murk-raking. His is a controversial one at this moment. I don't buy this investigative piece.
