I have travelled to Dholavira, Patan, Modhera, Sirpur, Nalanda, Gaya, Hampi, Belur, Halebidu, Konark and Puri, Ladakh, Kargil, Udaipur, Anantnag, Vaishnodevi, Kashmir, Kedarnath, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Srisailam and many other places.. mostly those that makes us nostalgic of our glorious past. Sure, I am inclined to visit this places coz I am interested in our heritage. Not everyone will be inclined, if they are inclined, they might not be aware of our heritage. Mr. Gulati, you deserve our huge gratitude for picking up these issues and firing us all up. We senior citizens listen to you every day. NOW YOU MUST DO THIS URGENTLY : BRING IN SENIOR TEACHERS, ACADEMICS FROM SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES ACROSS THE BOARD AND FROM INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITIES & CONDUCT AN INTERNATIONAL DEBATE. The focus should be on educational and cultural tourism and rediscovery of Indian heritage. The compulsary romanticisation and elevation of our own immeasurable treaures have to be ingrained at School and College level. We have to pressure School and College Boards to arrange these tours. NCC & SCOUTS camps can be compulsarily held at these sites and include academic curricula to be taught at these camps. Look at the NEP fir compulsory promotion of domestic tourism. Get the govts involved in, as also tour operators, local guides, universities and other stakeholders. Separate focus on infra creation acting in concert with local Municipalities is a must. The tourism ministry must keep a central infra register of all tourist destinations. The PM exhorted NRIs to bring in at least 5 foreign tourists in a year. There has to be social effort here. Bed and Breakfast facilities can be initiated by Tourism ministries & owners given international level training. AirBnB or OYO can be roped in create large and affordable boarding & lodging. There can be hygiene and food hygiene training for Restarurants across our locals. We need to be able to live upto the expectations of the modern tourists. Pl pl immediately conduct a big seminar as stated above and get it underwritten by commercial stakeholders.

I have been to Dholavira, a beautiful place that transports you to an era 6000 years ago. Ofcourse more work needs to be done, ASI can do better.. but Lothal and many other places need to be cleaned up and show us.

There is another unexposed segment of tourism called astrological Tourism. There are specific temples where you need to go to pray based on your birth star, your ruling planet (based on what sun sign you belong to) in many parts of Tamilnadu. Billions of dollars are spent by people around the world consulting astrologers for solutions to many personal problems.. Where they will stay? There are many Marriage Halls available where these people can stay. Do not think of them as dormitories. Actually many have guest rooms with air condition and attached toilet. If these are not there, they can be created with little additional cost.
