Never Giving Up On The Most Troubled Students 5

On Chicago's West Side, there is a school for the city's most at-risk youth — the Moses Montefiore Academy.

In the final episode of Last Chance High, Montefiore staff reach out to the family of Iriel to help brighten their holidays, while back at school the young student's violent outbursts continue to challenge her counselors. In an emotional interview, Coach Frank Williams reflects on the needs of these students and the cost of special education versus the cost of incarceration.

Most of the students at Montefiore have been kicked out of other schools for aggressive behavior, and many have been diagnosed with emotional disorders. Last Chance High takes viewers inside Montefiore's classrooms and into the homes of students who are one mistake away from being locked up or committed to a mental hospital.

When Iriel said "I don't like them touchin' me." I think she has ptsd from being molested by a family member or someone she knows. Also she said, "I don't like talking to nobody." which is a common sign from sexual abuse.

They should make episodes until they graduate the school and there all mature and respectful and they go on to regular schools as a finale

They did an update a few months back after the school closed. Only Cortez, Keontay, and Spanky were shown. Cortez and Keontay both dropped out of school, both have been shot on several occasions, and are in deep with gang wars. Cortez was getting death threats from a rival gang. It got to a point where he and his family moved to Battle Creek, MI to live with some friends for a time to avoid the danger. They've since moved back to Chicago. Keontay is gang banging big time. He's seen several friends get killed and another is paralyzed from a gunshot to the neck. Spanky, though he's put on more weight, seems to be doing fine. His stutter is gone and his days of being bullied are over. He was the bright spot on an otherwise very sad and depressing update. Rev Hood says that hope is just about lost for Cortez and Keontay. The piece ends with him saying "We failed them"

The coach is a light in the darkness. He looks to be at, or near retirement age, yet he still goes out there and tries to make a positive impact on these kids' lives. He knows that the odds are heavily stacked against them, but it doesn't stop him from trying. This man deserves everything good that comes his way. Bless him.
